The St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Spirit provides assistance to the poor and suffering, is an advocate for social justice, and provides opportunities to empower the poor to help themselves.

We strive to deepen the faith and spirituality of its members as they serve their brothers and sisters in need.

"Extend mercy towards others, so that there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping, for what hope is there for us if God should withdraw His Mercy from us?"

BEACH BAGS PROGRAM

The Beach Bags program provides shelf-stable meals and healthy snacks to students who might otherwise go hungry during weekends and over school breaks, including the long summer breaks. Since the program was founded in 2009, more than 154,000 Beach Bags have been distributed. During the 2019-20 school year, more than 24,400 Beach Bags were provided to our neediest students.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools, in partnership with the Virginia Beach Education Foundation, is addressing this critical need through the Beach Bags program. Our parish community can help by donating food items, or by volunteering to assemble bags each week.

Attention Ministry Heads:  We would like to encourage your ministry to consider assisting with the packing of 175 bags on a designated Wednesday during the summer. Contact Chris and Judee Clamor if you are able to help with this wonderful outreach project. Thank you so much!

UPDATE on Beach Bags:

Due to the overwhelming response, we have received all food supplies and will have the final Beach Bag pack day on Wednesday, July 14th.  Therefore, all future packing dates after July 14th are cancelled.

There are currently 10 volunteers signed up for the July 14th pack date, which will suffice.  However, if you did not sign up for that day, feel free to come and join in fellowship.

Thank you for all your support in this wonderful outreach program!

If you have any questions, please just let us know.

Thanks,

Judee and Chris

FOOD PANTRY

Through our St. Vincent de Paul ministry, the food pantry is open and we are able to serve clients in need.  We also have established a service for delivery of the food if the client is unable to come to the church for pick-up. Those needing assistance can contact (757) 468-3600 ext. 107 and leave a message. Someone from the outreach ministry will return all calls.

Food items we are accepting include: oatmeal, cold cereal, breakfast bars, granola bars, cans of ravioli, beef stew, chunky soups, peanut butter, jelly, mac & cheese, pasta, canned meat, rice, beans, canned vegetables and fruit.

Additional Needed Food Items:  Tuna, Hamburger or Chicken Helper, Banquet Complete Meals, Boxes of Cereal, Cream of Wheat, and Instant Powdered Milk.

Please drop off food items after Mass or during office hours. Thank you for your generosity as we continue to serve our community.

Please contact Joy Palm, Parish Secretary at (757) 468-3600 ext. 116 for more information.

YOUNG VINCENTIANS

We invite all young people ages 11-17 to attend a 3-day leadership and training program for Young Vincentians.  This new social outreach ministry will allow its members to grow in holiness as they further develop their own spirituality and prayer life, create new friendships, and serve those in need.

The three-day program will include information about the Young Vincentian ministry, guest speakers, leadership discussions, games, and activities, two service projects, a fundraising walk for our Holy Spirit’s St. Vincent de Paul outreach ministry and much more!  Lunch and snacks will be provided each day.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our youth to grow together in our Catholic faith and to cultivate a heart for the care and service for the disadvantaged.

Please contact Erin Laurence at elaurence@holyspiritvb.org or 468-3600, ext. 114 for additional information or to sign-up for the leadership and training program.

Thank you to all for a successful start!  Stay tuned for future events

On Wednesday, July 7, 2021, our Young Vincentians participated in a Fundraising Walk for our St. Vincent de Paul outreach ministry. 100% of all donations received went directly to assisting those in need throughout our community.

Please consider sponsoring our Young Vincentians in this effort by completing the following form and making a donation.

Thank you for your generosity!
